- Serves 4
- Made with Hot Italian Sausage Mix
You don't need casings or special gear to make great sausage at home. Mix Hot Italian Sausage Mix into ground pork, shape it and cook. That's it.
Ingredients
- 2 lb ground pork
- 2 tablespoons Hot Italian Sausage Mix (1 tablespoon per pound)
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 2 bell peppers, sliced
- 1 large onion, sliced
- 4 hoagie rolls
- Marinara or mustard, for serving (optional)
Steps
- In a large bowl, mix the ground pork and Hot Italian Sausage Mix with your hands until evenly combined. Don't overwork it.
- Shape into 8 small logs or 4 long links to fit your rolls.
- Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Cook the sausages, turning often, until browned all over and 160°F inside, about 12 to 15 minutes. Move to a plate.
- Add the peppers and onions to the same skillet and cook 8 to 10 minutes, until soft and a little charred.
- Tuck the sausages into the rolls and pile the peppers and onions on top.
Make it your own
Crumble the mixed sausage into a skillet instead and you've got a ready-made pizza or pasta topping.
